While medication and psychotherapy have repeatedly been shown to reduce symptoms of depression, they have not been shown to significantly improve quality of life.

Healthcare Business Today highlights a recent study, in which researchers at BrainsWay and Ben Gurion University measured the effect of Deep TMS treatment on depression symptom reduction and reported quality of life.  The study identified improvement in the active Deep TMS group versus the sham group at week five and at week 16.

Low quality of life contributes to the global disability associated with depression. It relates to the concept of recovery from illness, not just response and remission. If a patient is improving in quality of life, then they are at lower risk of disability and relapse.
